Rachel Kalidass
Businesswoman with a burden for national revival
The state of our nation has been a cause for concern for a long time. High levels of unemployment, violence, crime, corruption and maladministration all indicate a nation in need of transformation.
Rachel is a chartered accountant by profession. Over the years she has served as an audit committee and board member/non-executive director in multiple public sector departments and entities. Exposure to corruption, maladministration and general lack of leadership placed a burden on her to pray for the nation.
What began as a personal cry to the Lord developed into a deep sense of responsibility to do something further. She began supporting Christian prayer groups and sowing Bibles into ministries, while a series of dreams, visions and prophetic words strengthened her conviction that national healing required repentance and a return to God.
“I knew that the challenges I was seeing in the various organisations required more than funding, but a change of people’s hearts. Something that only God can do.”
Rachel’s journey led to a call for South Africa to be “awakened” through a National Day of Prayer and Repentance at FNB Stadium. Along the way she discovered a rich history of revival and national prayer in South Africa, including moves of God at Elujizweni and Sharpeville, the prayer initiatives associated with Graham Power, and later national prayer movements.
Today she continues to call believers, intercessors, churches, cities and towns to prayer, fasting, repentance and faith for spiritual awakening and healing across South Africa.
